Heyhoe
Looks to be a cracking engine and could shape up to be a very popular series.
TheDoctor
It looks a great series with a proven (in europe) engine. Nice to see a proper kart engine again! Looking forward to having a run in one at some point!
Heyhoe
Plenty of videos of the X30 in action in europe. Here's an example
Heyhoe
Good video produced by the guys over at Karting1.co.uk Full credit goes to them and you can see the full link including images here http://www.karting1.co.uk/news/
Heyhoe
Package prices taken from Iame.co.uk I have added the prices including VAT to the image as I get sick of seeing the words +VAT everywhere. And some detail of what each package includes.
Olly Waind
Looks to be a no brainer really. Especially if the engine is as reliable as iame are claiming. Hopefully theres not much between the engines. Otherwise you will still end up with the richest drivers paying builders a fortune to find magic barrells ect
TheDoctor
There wont be any magic barrels that's the beauty of it. How I understand it and I could be wrong, you will be able to machine to a fiche so if you have a barrel that isnt as good then you will be able to machine it to the maximum fiche. Whereas Rotax you just have to keep buying parts
Heyhoe
And here is the official IAME Fiche. X30Fiche.pdf
TheDoctor
Lets do a direct comparison to Rotax from a perspective of a very competitive club racer. Rotax Max - Tyres Dry £133.44 Tyres Wet £155.68 Engine (short) £1500 Engine Full package £2040.00 Full Rebuild £627.00 Top end only (piston and hone)£246.00 X30 Tyres Dry £130.80 Tyres Wet £142.80 Engine with carb (short) £1438 Engine Full package £2100 Full rebuild £???? Top end only (piston) £100.00 (plus a hone/bore) (prices taken from Iame Uk and Spellfame.co.uk) The unknown is what a full rebuild would cost, I will have to contact a engine builder for this cost. Other unknowns are carb kits and reeds which until the class starts running we don't know how often they need replacing. Its a good direct competition class, will it taken over? maybe not in the short term, but its a very good alternative for people that like to have the chance to rebuild their own engines.
Heyhoe
Breaking news: From www.lgmseries.co.uk ---------------------- 28th November 2013 X30 Information “TVKC and LGM promoters would like to clarify that the X30 is not able to run as a championship as set out in the new MSA class homologation, and apologise for any misleading information. The X30 classes will be seen at club races over the UK, please visit iame.co.uk for the latest information on this” ---------------------- It looks like the MSA feels there are enough championships already. More to follow once details are released.
Heyhoe
Previous statement removed from www.lgmseries.co.uk The championship appears to now be back on with the previous statement nowhere to be seen on the LGM series website. It appears as if talks are still currently being held with the MSA over this issue.
Olly Waind
Hmmm not a good start is it. They need to clarify his fast so as not to put off potential racers who have already or are intending on moving over from other classes. I think once the engine starts to get some grids up and we some of these motors appearing on the second hand market it should pick up pretty fast at club level. One of the problems I can see from the start is people who can't afford to buy the package from new will end up having to stick with what they have. However I'm sure that's always been the case with new classes.
Heyhoe
I have not updated this in a few weeks as it was not very clear what was going on. It appears as though there will be NO CHAMPIONSHIP for X30 in 2014 and will just be running at club level at the following confirmed circuits: Fulbeck Kimbolton Larkhall PFI Rye House Whilton Mill Wombwell It's a shame there is no championship as it was looking like a promising series. Let's just hope that this shaky start does not effect peoples confidence in making the switch..
Heyhoe
I got fed up of chasing nothing around so decided to not post an update until it was clear what was happening. http://www.x30world.co.uk/ 2014 will see for the first time the X30 by IAME being run in the UK, and as part of the new MSA class homologation it is not permitted to run a championship. The Tour UK will see a format that helps reduce racing cost by running with in a club race, this also ensures maximum track time and enjoyment. As it will be contested round by round this allow drivers to do selected races or the complete calendar. The summer race calendar will see 8 races contested over the UK and will shadow the successful LGM series. The LGM Series is now staring its 12th year and has been recognized as the first step into championship racing at minimum cost and to ensure that this is the case slick tyres will be restricted to one set for all the weekend track time competitors will also have the option to receive a discount on tyre purchases. All subscriptions to the Tour will have the opportunity to compete for a place at the IAME International Final, and other fantastic prizes along the way, the season will end with your invitation to the LGM Gala night to celebrate with family, friends and fellow competitors all your highs and lows of the season. Heyhoe
Whoever runs the X30 World website needs to pull their finger out as they still state the next meeting as PFI April 6th as of today. Olly Waind
Its good to see its actually kind of happening but It would have been so much more successful if the organisation had been there early on and more people knew what was going on with it!!
Heyhoe
A year later and it looks as though X30 is finally taking over from Rotax! The numbers at clubs are repeatedly beating those of Rotax. Let's hope the success continues and we don't see any issues with the engine in the long term.
